Chinese Traditional Paper Cutting and Spring Rolls Making Activity

Celebrate the year of the monkey with Cook in Shanghai by doing what the Chinese traditionally do for the new year celebrations. Every Chinese New Year there is a longstanding tradition that has been the art of papercrafting, this is a custom we do to decorate and bring luck to our homes. It is also a interesting and fun craft that has lived on through centuries.

When it comes to food there is no closer relative to New Year than the spring rolls, it marks the beginning of spring and is a cherished and popular dish not only in China but the rest of the world as well.

On the 31st of January Cook in Shanghai will bring a papper cutting and spring noodle event to get you ready for the New Year celebrations. You will learn how to cut paper with scissors as well with an engraving knife and we will help you make your craft visually pop out three-dimentionally from the paper. A great decoration that can be put up on windows and doors as is tradition.

Then it’s time to “bite into spring” as the expression goes. We will then roll and fry some spring rolls in the traditional Chinese way. This will be done with your chosen ingridients, for example vegetarian or meat.
